BOOKS FOR THE APPROACHING WINTER
In the Southern Hemisphere
Thanks to my current school set work book, I have gotten back into reading. This is a big step for me because I've been rather off the frivolous task for a few years. When starting a book, I often find myself loitering elsewhere while reading the fine text. Having to focus my eyes on such fine print was a constant challenge which later contributed to me getting glasses. Now that it's much easier, I am back on the reading band-waggon!I am not fond of fiction, nor do I call myself a lexophile. I merely enjoy reading 'information': encyclopedias and such. I'm not the type to absorb every word of a book. Publications such as magazines and newspaper articles filled to the brim with exciting events and world issues have forcibly taken me in and become my reading niche.
I can proudly say that I read boring books because of this. Books on architecture, travel, graphic design, photography, infographics and well, anything packed tightly with factual writing. These types are a favourite and prominent member of my bookshelf. I obviously don't think they're boring but others might beg to differ.
What caused me to dwell on my reading habits and choices in the first place was a list of books I had documented a while back that I was meaning to buy. Books which reflect the same categories mentioned above and were on the market at the time.
As mentioned in the previous post:
"An important literary addition to ones dpl can always be a good thing. Something to cancel out the total lack of importance that most of the other products probably have."Thanks to the resurrection of this list, I now have an excuse to troll the Internet to search for books to re-create it and to share my findings in a blog post.
Here are my findings:
SAY WHAT? Yes, a Beatles comic book. I would like to see one idiotic person tell me this isn't the greatest invention to land on earth since sliced bread. I have not personally held this book in my hands but I'm certain that once its within my midst I will not let it go.
One of my favourite books of all time. Infographics. Infographics. INFOGRAPHICS. I love them. Infographics are visuals which express various statistics through pictures. Their fun and colourful pictures are designed to get information retained in your brain. Now that the obsession rant is over, I can tell you that this book is made up of them. It is a book which you can read over again because, I promise you, the information wont stick the first time. Show off with your new-found knowledge of global issues once you've read this. Any age can read this, that's the beauty of infographics, anybody can understand them. As long as you have the ability to read obviously.
From geography to science to pop culture, this book has explanations and information about it. These types of books prove to the world that we are able to learn every yoctometer of information if we really want to. References beyond your imagination and on every single earthly topic this world has to offer are featured in this book.
So here are some of my findings. If you are one who thinks these books are boring, I'll be more than happy to never see your knowledge-deprived eyes glancing over at this blog ever again.
Let this books be a genre indication rather than prescribed reads by a person who hasn't at all made a literary difference to the world, yet. To take one thing out of this, is the genre, not so much the book.
Books are great.
Knowledge is fantastic.
Research topics until your eyes turn green. (?)
